Our behaviour is 95% controlled by our subconscious mind. It takes care of digestion, blinking, driving while on the phone and reading words on a computer screen. As you read this words your subconscious is checking its memory banks and files of data to recall what each of these words mean. If you were to do this consciously it would take you forever to read. Driving a car is like that too. At first it was an intimidating task. There were too many things to remember and look out for. Now you can do it automatically while sending a text message and making a left turn. The reason its easy to do those things is because your mind has chunked that information and has stored it which allows you to just consciously decide to drive while you let your subconscious do the rest.
So how can you program your mind to love doing what’s good for you?
You have to create a sequence of visuals that end with you feeling great about doing that task.
For instance, lets say you need to study. When you look at your books you might feel lazy and unmotivated to
open those dusty heavy texts. But what if you looked at your books and instead felt excited and pumped up to
learn and study?
This is how you could program your mind to feel totally excited to study.
First, figure out what the big pay off is to studying. Maybe that means you get to give a speech about what you learned or you get a good job or you get to become a PhD. Whatever the big payoff is to studying, make it a huge sensory rich colorful picture in your mind.
Second, figure out what a pleasurable step before that might be. For instance, if you studied now, you would be able to reward yourself with a trip to the fridge or going out clubbing that night. Make this visual richly colourful and bright.
Third, stack another benefit of doing the studying. So lets say you get to have people applauding you for all the studying you did. Maybe you learned your material so well that you gave a speech that all your peers and mentors were totally amazed with. Imagine all your mentors giving you pats on the back and warm enthusiastic handshakes.
Fourth, imagine yourself back at your desk feeling thrilled with the amount of amazing experiences you had from doing all that studying. And then repeat all those memories in that order. So you could see yourself studying, then the PhD, then go clubbing, and then all the applause and handshakes and then studying. Repeat!
Continue repeating this sequence of visuals and looping it over and over at least 7 times. This will program your subconscious mind with the understanding that studying is sexy and exciting and feels good. Now when you look at your books they’re much more attractive and the you’ll be able to get into it more.
It’s sort of like making a cartoon in your mind that repeats itself over and over. The sequence of those visuals is
what sets the path that you take. With that understanding, give yourself some exciting animated images to
fool around with in your mind.
To really make this even more effective, you can record yourself describing each of those animated scenes. Then playback that audio when you’re relaxing and in an alpha state. This will absolutely change the way you feel about doing whatever it is that would make your ideal life come more into being.
